Listen to Application Security Weekly
The Application Security Weekly podcast delivers interviews and news from the worlds of AppSec, DevOps, DevSecOps, and all the other ways people find and fix software flaws. Well, except for BugOps – that’s a terrible approach.
Join hosts Mike Shema, John Kinsella, and Kalyani Pawar on a journey through modern security practices for apps, clouds, containers, and more.

Intros & Other Bits
The show is more than just appsec headlines. I try to make every intro unique, with a touch of appsec in everything from New Wave music to limericks to a bit of film noir. I document these entertaining excursions in the extra show notes.
I list the artists I’ve mentioned on the ASW outros in the synthwave shoutouts.
Interviews & News
In the news segment, we go beyond headlines and summaries to explain how a flaw in one app demonstrates a common mistake that could haunt any app, or how the latest breach can inform the threat models you use for your own environment.

Appsec Is Most Likely to…
In 2024 we asked our guests to help us create some yearbook-like entries by completing the phrase, “Appsec is most likely to…”
The responses have been as varied as our guests. I’ll start turning them into a wordcloud along with a gauge of whether they hint at a pessimistic or optimistic future.
Appsec in Three Words
In 2023 we asked our guests to describe appsec in three words. No other constraints and no other rules – just appsec as the topic and three words as the description.
It’s been fun to hear the variety and creativity of the responses. There’s been almost no overlap and they’ve all been entertaining.
Check out how it turned out with this wordcloud.
