Cybersecurity & Privacy Predictions for 2025

It’s a new year, but appsec has some predictive lessons from the past.

In 1975, sci-fi author John Brunner predicted and named the computer worm in his novel, Shockwave Rider.

In the 80s, cyberpunk exploded and William Gibson’s short story, Burning Chrome, gave us the term and concept of cyberspace.

But even back in the 60s and well before the ubiquity of personal computers, there was the Star Trek communicator – which, of course, predicted that personal devices would always track and give away our location info.
